The Mayor has ordered units to guard The Office. We don't have all our papers, but we will not be taken alive!

Ralph, it's all fucking racism. These motherfuckers who's ancestors couldn't even get a job because they weren't WASPS have completely forgotten from whence they came. This obsession that we seem to have with deporting people is racism on either side of the aisle, plain and simple.

You want to deport? Great. But let's reform first. Give these people a chance to register and let them stay. If they're bad, get 'em out. If they're decent people trying to make a living and escape south American or Asian hell holes, what's the problem?

Weren't the Irish and the Italians and even the Germans trying to escape poverty, despotism and local crime lords?

I had a childhood friend who was wacked ,who was on the other side of the coin.
Even the "protectors " can suffer the same fate

Chopped his body into pieces and a bullet in the face

Some did, some didn't. I'm sorry to hear about your great grandfather. I was always under the impression that the American Mafia was formed from the lower level soldiers in Sicily. But then again, this is what I've heard from the parents of my Italian buddies growing up. And while they all romanticized the concept of the mob, none of them had any real experience with it.

How is this fair to the many who did it by the book, they dealt with the aggravating red tape bs. Why are they special, why should they be treated special. It's like a line in the store when someone tries to cut in front, well BS, get in back of the line & wait your turn just like everyone else.

This reminds me of story my grandfather used to tell. I'm terrified to tell it because God knows what I'll be called. In the 40's-early 50's my grandfather exported fish to the Fulton Fish Market. He made bi-monthly trips to NYC to talk price, product, order size, etc... He dealt with Italian Mob Bosses and Jews.

He said he always preferred dealing with the Jewish business men. Basically, the Jews would fight him on everything. But once they shook hands, they both walked away and the deal was golden and blessed. Zero deviation. The Mob was different. They'd smile, kiss you agree to everything and tell you that you were the greatest. But the minute you turned around they had no issues (figuratively) stabbing you in the back for a better deal.

He lost over 50 shipments, that weren't purchased, to Italians and not one single shipment to the Jews. He always told me to go into business with Jewish people because despite reputation he found them to be the most honorable people he ever dealt with.

It's more family oral history. Supposedly, his second wife's maiden name was the same as a NY crime family.

Until she died, my grandmother made us swear not to put her name in the obituaries or at least not so it named her siblings.

Because xenophobia has caused us to extremely limit current immigration opportunities vs. what existed in the past. So all the whites got in, and now that we have a brown immigration - it's no good. That's how it's fair.

The ones that romanticize it are 2nd or 3rd generation spoiled brats. They think there is some honor among thugs yet they never really got their asses kicked in their lives.

My grandfather refused to see The Godfather because the thought of the movie traumatized him.

I think it's a mistake to harp/focus on the past, we're in the present & this is our only reality.

A lot of us have some old family stories like this or similar to this. I certainly remember a few. One of my uncles was actually a guy who worked for the mob and paid "visits" to men who were late coughing up their money on lost bets. I would say he was in the "operations" end of things, lol.

    You people and the past.

Ok, link, grab your smokes and start deporting people. Not sure what you want me to tell you here. Turning a blind eye to the racism that existed in the past is the ideal remedy for those who support racism today. But what do I know?

It's no wonder you found slipping in with the mayor such an easy thing. Family history and all that.

Immigrants are special because Americans are even more So special that they won't debase themselves picking tomatoes and cleaning motel rooms.

That's how they get their visas in the first place. Their employers make a showing that there is a labor shortage and can't hire American workers.

You're free to compete with their labor services.

But if you don't want to compete, those businesses need workers somehow.

Sure people did wrong in the past, people also killed in the past, people stole in the past etc. The point is whats the sense in discussing it, should we discuss that people robbed banks in the past etc. & i'm not turning a blind eye to any wrong that was done. I just feel it would be more productive to focus on the present rather then pointing out the evil people did in the past.
